Goal Tracking Sheet

I’m going to gush here.

David Seah is a brilliant, brilliant man. I don’t want to come off as a stalker or anything, but I love about everything he puts out.

At this point, and this is saying a lot for me, he’s right up there with David Allen, Dale Carnegie and ohhhh I’m going to go with Eddie Van Halen.

Long story short, he’s a rock god (small ‘g’) in my book.

What Inspired this Love-Fest?

The Printable CEO Series.

It’s a whole collection of little tools that keep you on track.

All very cool and all completely free for download.

My two favorites are the Concrete Goals Tracker & the Emergent Task Timer. I know meaty names right? I had to look up ‘emergent.’

Keeping Score & Kicking Butt

First, the Concrete Goals Tracker.

I love games. In fact, I’ve always tried to make a game out of work. Trying to see how many widgets I can grind in an hour. How many cold calls I can get in before 10am etc.

David Seah has come up with a great way to translate this game to your work. Although, I’m not sure that’s how he’d explain it. The idea is that effective leaders focus activities on their most important goals. Everything else can wait.

Point values are assigned to various goals. As you complete a task which supports one of the goals, you award yourself points.

Knock off a task that supports a high leverage goal? 10 points!

Spend 30 min answering email –1 point.

Spent 15 min reading up on the Elliot Spitzer mess? 0 points.

The cool thing is it’s an editable PDF file that you download and fill in your own goals at each level. He even has a handy pocket fold one that can sit o your desk as you work.

I’ve been using this for a week now. It’s really brought focus for me without becoming a burden to manage.


Inventory Your Work
Another cool tool I’m using, the Emergent Task Timer.

I’m always encouraging small business owners to track their time. It simply the best way to know if your investing your time wisely.

An effective leader knows - What they do, when they do it, and how long it took them.

The Emergent Task Timer is a great tool for doing that and it’s hyper easy.

The original was created for paper and an egg timer. However, I’ve been using his beta version which is built in flash and runs off your browser. It’s just the easiest way I’ve found to pace your day and create an inventory of the work your doing.

This allows you to objectively assess your activities so you can lean out, delegate, or eliminate a lot of the chaff that inevitably enters into our work day

Conclusion

David’s tools are unique. They aren’t some boiled over version of Franklin planner. They’re easy to understand and simple to implement.

I’m thankful he’s put these together and encourage you to check them out when you’ve got some time.
